The January 2024 articles and eBook, along with TAPPI Journal’s archived peer-reviewed research dating back to 1992, are OPEN ACCESS to all readers, regardless of membership status. TAPPI is pleased to make this cutting-edge research available to the industry at large as a way to support scientific advancements in the pulp, paper, packaging and related fields.

For January, a special Papermaking Additives issue explores these topics:

• New dry strength additives from glyoxalated polyacrylamides

• Improving monochloramine performance with sensor-controlled dosing

• Mineral use in fiber-based packaging and pulp molding

• AKD sized paper reversion due to oxidative photodegradation

• Amphoteric dry strength chemistry for dealing with low-quality fiber

The February issue explores the role of hornification in the deterioration of physical properties during paper recycling, as well as quantification of hardwood black liquor contamination in pine black liquor. Other topics include the effects of tissue additives on copy paper forming and properties, along with

effects of carboxymethyl starch as a papermaking additive.

Prospective authors are encouraged to submit their research for peer review and consideration for publication in TAPPI Journal at tappi.org/tjsubmit. Each published paper is considered for the annual TAPPI Journal Best Research Paper Award and $2,000 Honghi Tran Prize.
