한국펄프종이공학회는 1967년 설립, 대한민국의 펄프와 제지산업의 발전을 위해 제지산업과 관련된 학계와 기업인이 함께 하는 유일한 단체입니다. 

따라서 우리 학회는 학문적 연구와 기술인 양성을 위한 교육을 주요사업으로 하고 있어 매년 봄가을 논문발표회 등 학술세미나와 제지관련 기업의 임직원들을 위한 기술교육 등을 실시하고 있습니다.

즉, 학문적 연구와 또 연구결과를 기업 현장에 접목시키고, 학계와 업계가 서로 유기적인 관계를 통해 균형 있게 발전할 수 있도록 역할을 하고 있습니다.  

최근 종이는 전통적인 기능의 변화와 종이의 새로운 발견이 이루어지고 있습니다.

첫째, 여러분들이 일상에서 접하고 있는 종이는 이제 그 기능이 변하고 있습니다.
종이는 채륜이 발명한 이후 인쇄술의 발달과 함께 인류문화 발전에 크게 기여했습니다.
그러나 지금은 스마트폰 등 IT기기의 발달로 정보를 기록하고 전파시키는 기능이 점차 축소되고 있고 새로운 종이의 기능을 요구하고 있는 실정입니다.
우리 펄프종이공학회도 종이의 새로운 변화에 발 맞춰 종이의 새로운 활용방안을 고민하고 연구할 것입니다.

둘째, 그 동안 종이는 환경을 파괴하는 주범으로 오명을 쓰고 있습니다.
이는 종이를 만들기 위해 산림자원을 파괴하고 있다는 오해에서 출발하고 있습니다.
사실은 종이를 만드는 나무는 자연림이 아닌 제지용 조림으로 산림자원을 파괴하는 것이 아니라 오히려 조림을 하고 있습니다. 
또한 종이는 요즘 문제가 되고 있는 플라스틱의 피해를 대체할 수 있는 유일한 대안입니다. 종이만이 플라스틱을 대체할 수 있고 종이가 갖는 무한 재활용이 자연을 지키는 자원으로 각광받을 것입니다.
우리 학회에서는 이런 종이의 새로운 기능과 친환경적 자원 이미지를 적극 홍보해서 일반 국민들이 의식을 전환할 수 있도록 적극 나설 것입니다.

한국펄프종이공학회 55년 역사에서 현직 기업인이 회장을 맡은 것은 이번이 처음입니다.
저는 기업인 출신답게 어느 때보다도 산학이 긴밀하게 연계하고 성과를 낼 수 있게 노력할 것이고 보다 당면한 문제를 속도를 내서 해결할 수 있도록 하겠습니다.
종이의 기능이 달라지고 세상이 급변하는 시대에 우리 펄프종이공학회가 시대의 흐름에 맞게 발 빠르게 대응하고 적응할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠습니다.

Welcome to KTAPPI,

Since its establishment in 1967, the Korea Technical Association of The Pulp and Paper Industry (KTAPPI) has been the only organization joined by academics and entrepreneurs related to the paper industry to develop the pulp and paper industry in Korea. 

Our society focuses on academic research and education to foster technology and provides technical training for executives and employees of paper-related companies every spring and fall and academic seminars such as thesis presentations.
In other words, we incorporate academic research and research results into the corporate field and help academia and industry develop in a balanced manner through organic relationships.

With recent changes in traditional functions, new paper discoveries are being made.
First, the function of paper you encounter in your daily life is changing.
Paper has contributed significantly to the development of printing and the development of human culture since Chaeryun invented it.
However, with the development of IT devices such as smartphones, the function of paper to record and disseminate information is gradually decreasing, and society is demanding a new function of paper.
We KTAPPI will also consider and study new ways to use paper in line with new changes in paper.

Second, paper is now stigmatized as the main culprit of environmental destruction.
This started with people's misunderstanding that they were destroying forest resources to make paper.
Paper-making trees are not natural trees, but trees that are grown for paper, and the paper industry is not destroying forest nature, but rather contributing greatly to the creation of the environment. 
Paper is also the only alternative to the plastic in trouble these days. Only paper can completely replace plastic, and the infinite recycling potential of paper will make paper a resource to protect nature.
Our association will actively promote these new functions of paper and the image of eco-friendly resources to change the general public's consciousness.

This is the first time in the 55-year history of the KTAPPI that an incumbent businessman has served as president.
As a former businessman, I will try to help the association connect closely and produce results, and speed up more urgent problems.
In an era where paper functions change and the world changes rapidly, we will do our best to respond and adapt quickly to the trend of the times.
